Regional Exchange Program with Business

(Sri Lanka)
Recognising
and acknowledging the potentials, roles and strengths of private
sector in inclusive economic development for peacebuilding, Federation
of Women Entrepreneurs Nepal (FWEAN), FNCCI, NBI Nepal, NCC, CNI,
with support from GTZ / INCLUDE and International Alert organized
a regional exchange program with Business for Peace Alliance (BPA)
and Ceylon Chamber of Commerce from Sri Lanka.
The 7 day exchange program aimed to facilitate regional experience
sharing and stimulate discussions on private sector's potentials
and roles in inclusive economic development for sustainable peacebuilding.
The exchange program also attempted to establish networks and build
solidarity at a regional level between Sri Lanka and Nepal.
Amongst a series of workshops and interactions taking place in Biratnagar
and Kathmandu, FWEAN organized the SME workshop that took place
on December 10, 2008 at the Ambassador Hotel. Ms. Chhaya Sharma,
1st Vice President of FWEAN conducted a power point presentation
from a Nepali concept. Dr. Anura Ekanayake, Vice President of Ceylon
Chamber of Commerce and Industry on the other hand talked about
the impact of prolonged conflict on the businesses in Sri Lanka.
The Sri Lankan delegates and the participants comprising mostly
of SME’s also shared their experiences on coping with conflict
and sustaining their businesses.
The exchange program was very successful and fruitful. Much experience
was shared from the Sri Lankan side, and the participants in the
program were able to learn a lot from them. Likewise the Sri Lankan
delegates were also made aware of the situation in Kathmandu and
were able to learn new ideas and coping strategies.
